MBEC frequently uses wildlife cameras on a wide range of projects because they are cost effective and make 24-hour, non-invasive monitoring possible. A few examples of the more interesting footage captured are shown below.

Pine Marten

Pine martens do not normally dig their own dens but make use of existing shelters such as holes in trees, unused squirrel dreys or rock crevices. Although aerial dens are believed to be preferred by pine marten, in the UK there is a general lack of suitable sites due to the loss of mature semi-natural woodland. This pine marten seems at home in a ground den, which may well have been previously dug and used by rabbit or fox.
