An Overview of MBEC’s Work

MBEC provides ecological consultancy services for a wide range of public and private sector clients and for projects within the terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine environments. These include residential and retail development, transport (road, rail, ferry and air), windfarms and associated powerlines (overhead and underground), hydro schemes (small and large) and, offshore renewables.

For our commercial clients, services include all stages of development from pre-construction, through to operation, site restoration and monitoring. Some clients require feasibility work, Impact Assessments and Planning Hearings/Appeals to be undertaken for projects while others only require our services for construction and Ecological Clerk of Works roles and post construction monitoring.

Our work for the public sector includes providing advice at a variety of geographic scales, including strategic level advice at country/UK level. For example, MBEC has been the ecological advisers to the Scottish Executive/Transport Scotland since the consultancy was formed and this has also included wider Scottish Government work and advice/assistance to the Scottish Ministers. In addition, MBEC assist Local Authorities with a range of work streams including ecological input to Strategic Environmental Assessment of Local Plans and supplementary planning guidance, development plan hearings and decisions regarding the nature conservation value of sites within Local Plans.

MBEC also undertakes a wide variety of specialist ecological surveys for taxa such as fungi, insects, mammals, freshwater pearl mussels, plants and fish, as well as digitising and analysing spatial data and producing publication-quality figures for reports.
