Ecological Services

Undertaking relevant ecological studies at an early stage in development planning and design reduces costs and delays in the planning process and increases the potential for a positive outcome in minimising the impact of the proposed development on important habitats and species. Early integration of ecological mitigation, through iterative design, also reduces risks to the project consent process and programme.

Standard Ecological Surveys

The suite of typical ecological surveys undertaken in order to provide advice as to where and how the project may be developed (e.g. Phase 1 habitat survey, protected species walkover surveys).

Specialist Services

Specialist surveys includes a wide range of ecology surveys that may be required for a site depending on the location and type of habitats present and also the status of the site (e.g. is it within or adjacent to a statutory designated site such as a SSSI, SPA or SAC?).

Environmental Impact Assessment and Appropriate Assessment

Ecological input to EIA Scoping Requests.

Completion of all ecological / ornithological surveys and impact assessments as part of the EIA process for the full range of development projects.

Undertaking special studies to inform appropriate assessments, under the Conservation Regulations 1994, as amended, undertaken by competent authorities in arriving at decisions regarding effects of plans or projects on the integrity of Natura Sites (i.e. Special Protection Areas, Special Areas of Conservation etc.).

MBEC has a team of GIS and data management specialists who carry out a wide range of data management, data entry and, digitisation tasks.
